How to Pick Which Hackathons to Enter
You cannot do all of them. Entering six hackathons badly is strictly worse than entering two well. Use these filters:
Filter 1: Does it lead to a hiring conversation?
Hackathons split cleanly into two categories:
- Hiring funnels — Adobe, Flipkart GRiD, HackOn with Amazon, Google Girl Hackathon, TCS CodeVita. The prize is a job pipeline.
- Building events — MLH, Devfolio, campus hackathons. The prize is a portfolio project, a team, and speed.

Filter 3: Are you actually eligible?
Read the graduating-batch rules before you invest a weekend. Most Indian hiring hackathons restrict by graduation year, and some restrict by branch. Nothing is more demoralising than clearing a round and being disqualified on eligibility.

2. Smart India Hackathon (SIH)
Format: Internal college hackathon → national-level nomination → 36-hour Grand Finale.
2026 timeline: SPOC registration closed July 31 · problem statements released August 25 · team registration through September 6 · internal hackathons Sept–Oct · Grand Finale December 2026.
Eligibility: Students at AICTE-approved institutions, teams of six with mandatory female representation, software and hardware editions.

3. Flipkart GRiD
Format: 4 rounds — profile screening → coding assessment → case-study coding round → national finals. Registration is individual; Flipkart forms teams for the finale.
Tracks: Software Development, AI Engineering, Data Science.
Eligibility (GRiD 8.0): B.E./B.Tech/M.E./M.Tech/M.S./PhD/dual-degree students graduating between 2027 and 2031 depending on programme.

Team: 2–3 members, all registering individually on Unstop and grouped into the same team.
Eligibility: CSE, IT, AI, Data Science, Cyber Security, ECE, Electrical and other circuital branches.
Why it matters: Prizes up to ₹2.25 lakh plus pre-placement interview opportunities at Amazon.
The catch that eliminates most teams: every member must individually clear the coding challenge for the team to advance. One weak link ends the run.

6. Google Girl Hackathon

8. JP Morgan Code for Good
Format: HackerRank coding test → HireVue AI video interview → 24-hour hackathon building for a nonprofit.
Why it matters: Many participants receive internship or full-time offers, and JP Morgan covers travel, accommodation and meals for selected participants.
The surprise: The HireVue AI interview eliminates more candidates than the coding test. Almost nobody prepares for it.

9. MLH (Major League Hacking) Student Hackathons
Format: 200+ student hackathons worldwide per season, typically 24–36 hours, in-person and online. The season runs roughly July through June.
Why it matters: These aren't hiring funnels, and that's the point — they're where you learn to build fast, work with strangers, and finish something. Do two or three of these before you enter a hiring hackathon.

10. Everything Else Worth Watching
- Walmart Sparkathon / CodeHers — open innovation challenge in retail tech, plus a women-only coding challenge; typically a June–August window
- HackWithInfy — Infosys's coding competition feeding into Power Programmer roles
- ETHIndia and Devfolio events — the largest Web3 hackathon circuit in India, autumn–winter, with substantial bounty pools

The Preparation That Works for All of Them

Layer 1: Pattern-based DSA (the universal gate)
Every hiring hackathon starts with a timed coding round. Random problem-grinding doesn't build the recognition speed you need — pattern coverage does.

Layer 2: CS fundamentals
Adobe, TCS and most campus assessments include MCQs on operating systems, DBMS and networks. These are the cheapest marks on the paper and the most commonly skipped.
Layer 3: Ship-fast engineering
You cannot learn to deploy under deadline pressure during the deadline. Before your first hiring hackathon, build and deploy at least two projects end to end. Know your stack's cold-start path by heart: scaffold, auth, database, deploy, done.
